A high school teacher in the city of Den Bosch received death threats for having shown a cartoon of Muhammad in class. He was forced into hiding.
In November 2020, a high school teacher in the Dutch city of Den Bosch showed a cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad in his classroom. The cartoon was shown as part of a lesson on free speech. “Unrest” apparently followed, which included threats issued to the teacher.
“Actions in relation to freedom of speech in schools in Rotterdam and Den Bosch have led to unrest and even threats. To intimidate and threaten teachers cannot be tolerated in any way.” - statement of two Dutch education officials, Arie Slob and Ingrid van Engelshoven
As a result of the threats, the teacher was forced into hiding. The incident, along with a similar one in Rotterdam, drew the attention of Dutch officials, who strongly condemned the threats and the atmosphere of fear they engendered.
