Akash Saha, the age of whom varying reports give as 18 or 20, was arrested after an allegedly purportedly Facebook post about Islam. As he is Hindu, the post also provoked significant vandalism of Hindu shops, homes, and a temple.
A Facebook post—the contents of which were not reported, except that it purportedly insulted Islam—led to the arrest of Hindu college student Akash Saha in Bangladesh in July 2022. Reports vary but give his age as between 18 and 20.
In addition to spurring the student's arrest, the Facebook post also triggered mayhem in his locality. A Hindu temple was vandalized, along with Hindu shops and homes. Damage reportedly included broken windows and furniture in addition to arson. Prior to Akash's arrest and in the midst of the violence, Akash's father was also arrested.
Shortly after his arrest, a court order placed the student on a three-day remand. It appears from initial reports that that no vandals/attackers were immediately arrested.

Blasphemy law in Bangladesh allows the state to arrest, trial and imprison any person who has intention of hurting "religious sentiments." While the state does not have any law against apostasy, vigilantism or non-state groups prosecute apostates on their own. Vigilante violence has been an especially acute issue, most notably in the mid-2010s when a string of secularist and atheist bloggers suffered murder and attempted murder at the hands of Islamist extremists.
