Nabeel Chohan, a reportedly illiterate Christian teenager, was arrested after being reported for a blasphemous Facebook post he had liked and shared. He was denied release on bail for at least eight months.
In September 2016, Pakistani Christian Nabeel Chohan was arrested and detained for blasphemy. Reports disagree as to Nabeel’s age; he was either 16 or 18 at the time of his arrest. After his detention, he was twice refused bail, once in February 2017 and again in May.

Apparently, Nabeel had liked and shared a blasphemous social media image depicting the Kaaba in a “disparaging” light. A Muslim friend of his reportedly saw the post and promptly filed a blasphemy case with police.
Nabeel was convicted of the crime of blasphemy in 2018, sentenced to ten years' imprisonment. This made him Pakistan's youngest blasphemy convict.
In March 2021, Nabeel, now aged 20, was granted bail.

Pakistan is one of the most repressive countries in the world with regard to freedom of expression, including and especially religious freedom. Blasphemy (i.e. insults) against religion in general can result in imprisonment, while blasphemy against Islam carries the much harsher punishment of death. Both in terms of the aggressiveness with which the Islamic-conservative government prosecutes such cases, as well as the harshness of punishment, Pakistan remains one of the worst places on the planet to speak out against religion or religious fundamentalism.
