Kahaa Dhinn is a Somali-Norwegian activist who is currently “a leading figure” on Facebook’s True Somali Freedom Page, along with the page’s creator, Ayaanle. The group, of which more than 80,000 users are a part, seeks to be a space for open dialogue and free expression for Somalis, especially regarding religion. In addition to hosting this platform, those who run the page, including Ayaanle and Kahaa, have made efforts to assist religious minorities who are trapped in dangerous environments or situations.

“They threatened to kill me with knives and said ‘the Muslims will kill you and you will die in their hands.’” - Kahaa Dhinn

Because of her role on the page, Kahaa, who is an atheist, has received death threats from Islamists and religious fundamentalists. At one point, two users also in Norway who unwisely sent her threats in their real names were found and arrested by police.

Despite the danger associated with doing what they do, Kahaa and Ayaanle both continue to run the page and help persecuted individuals in that effort.

“I actually feel more Somali, like I have my real identity back.” - Kahaa Dhinn on her deconversion from Islam
